1. Acceptance of Terms
By downloading, installing, or using The Halal Scanning App ("the App"), you agree to be bound by these Terms of Service ("Terms"). If you do not agree, do not use the App.
These Terms constitute a legally binding agreement between you and The Halal Scanning App. By using the App, you represent that you are at least 13 years old (or 16 in the EU/UK). If you are under the applicable age, you may only use the App with parental or guardian consent.
2. Description of Service
The Halal Scanning App provides:
- Barcode scanning with halal status verification
- AI-powered ingredient label scanning
- AI-powered restaurant menu scanning
- AI-powered product visual recognition
- Nutrition analysis with NHS Traffic Light system
- Scholar Q&A and madhab-specific rulings
- Halal restaurant and shop finder
- Halal deals from supermarkets
- Community product submissions
- Health condition-based dietary alerts
3. User Accounts
Account creation is optional. You can use most features without an account.
If you create an account, you are responsible for:
- Maintaining the confidentiality of your login credentials.
- All activities that occur under your account.
- Notifying us immediately of any unauthorised access.
We reserve the right to suspend or terminate accounts that violate these Terms.
4. Free and Premium Tiers
Basic (Free) Tier

Premium subscriptions are processed through Apple App Store or Google Play Store. Pricing, billing, and cancellation are governed by the respective store's terms. We reserve the right to modify features in either tier with reasonable notice.
5. Subscriptions, Payments & Refunds
All payments are processed by Apple (App Store) or Google (Play Store). We do not directly collect or store payment information.
Subscription Plans
- Monthly: £3.99 per month, auto-renewing
- Annual: £29.99 per year, auto-renewing (save 37%)
- Lifetime: £79.99 one-time purchase
Free Trial
New users may be eligible for a 3-day free trial of Premium. The trial begins when you subscribe and converts to a paid subscription at the end of the trial period unless cancelled at least 24 hours before the trial ends.
Auto-Renewal
Monthly and annual subscriptions auto-renew unless cancelled at least 24 hours before the end of the current billing period. You can manage or cancel your subscription in your device's App Store or Play Store settings.
Refund Policy
Refund requests must be directed to Apple or Google through their respective processes:
We do not process refunds directly.
6. Accuracy of Information
While we strive for accuracy, we cannot guarantee that all product information or halal statuses are 100% correct.
Limitations:
- Product formulations may change without notice.
- AI analysis is probabilistic and may contain errors.
- Open Food Facts data is community-contributed and may be incomplete.
- Halal certification status may change.
Users should always:
- Check product packaging directly.
- Look for official halal certification marks (HMC, HFA, IFANCA, etc.).
- Consult qualified scholars for doubtful products.
7. Deals & Price Information
Halal deals and prices are sourced from publicly available data. We do not guarantee:
- Price accuracy or availability.
- That deals are current or valid at your local store.
- That displayed certification labels are up to date.
Always verify prices and availability at the store before purchasing.
8. Health & Allergy Information
Nutrition, allergy, and health information is provided for general guidance only. It is NOT medical advice.
- Always consult healthcare professionals for dietary decisions related to health conditions.
- Allergen information may be incomplete — always check product packaging.
- The NHS Traffic Light nutrition ratings are approximate guides.
- Health condition alerts (diabetic, high BP, etc.) are generalised thresholds, not personalised medical advice.
9. Acceptable Use
You agree not to:
- Use the App for any unlawful purpose.
- Submit false, misleading, or offensive product information.
- Attempt to reverse engineer, decompile, or disassemble the App.
- Scrape, harvest, or collect data from the App in an automated manner.
- Interfere with or disrupt the App's services or infrastructure.
- Impersonate another person or entity.
- Use the App to harass, abuse, or harm others.
- Circumvent any security features or access controls.
10. Community Submissions
By submitting product information, corrections, or scholar questions:
- You confirm the information is accurate to the best of your knowledge.
- You grant us a non-exclusive, royalty-free licence to use, display, and distribute the submission for the purposes of operating and improving the App.
- Submissions may be reviewed, edited, or rejected at our discretion.
- You retain ownership of any original content you submit.
11. Intellectual Property
All content, features, functionality, design, and branding of the App are the property of The Halal Scanning App and are protected by copyright, trademark, and other intellectual property laws.
Product data sourced from Open Food Facts is used under the Open Database License (ODbL).
You may not reproduce, distribute, or create derivative works from the App without our written consent.
12. Limitation of Liability
TO THE MAXIMUM EXTENT PERMITTED BY LAW:
The App is provided "AS IS" and "AS AVAILABLE" without warranties of any kind, whether express or implied.
We shall not be liable for:
- Any indirect, incidental, special, consequential, or punitive damages.
- Loss of profits, data, or business opportunities.
- Decisions made based on information provided by the App.
- Actions taken based on halal status determinations.
- Inaccuracies in product data, nutrition information, or AI analysis.
Our total liability shall not exceed the amount you paid for the App in the 12 months preceding the claim.
Nothing in these Terms excludes liability for fraud, death or personal injury caused by negligence, or any other liability that cannot be excluded by law.
13. Indemnification
You agree to indemnify, defend, and hold harmless The Halal Scanning App, its owners, employees, and affiliates from any claims, damages, losses, or expenses (including legal fees) arising from:
- Your use of the App.
- Your violation of these Terms.
- Your violation of any third-party rights.
- Content you submit through the App.
14. Termination
You may stop using the App at any time by uninstalling it.
You may delete your account and all associated data through the Settings screen or by contacting support@halalscanningapp.com.
We may suspend or terminate your access to the App if:
- You violate these Terms.
- We are required to do so by law.
- We discontinue the App or any part of it.
Upon termination, your right to use the App ceases immediately. Provisions that by their nature should survive termination will remain in effect.
15. Dispute Resolution
If you have a dispute with us, we encourage you to contact us first at support@halalscanningapp.com so we can try to resolve it informally.
If informal resolution fails:
- UK/EU Users: You may refer the dispute to an approved Alternative Dispute Resolution (ADR) provider or the courts.
- Other Users: Any dispute shall first be submitted to good-faith mediation. If mediation fails, the dispute shall be resolved by the courts specified in the Governing Law section.
16. Force Majeure
We shall not be liable for any failure or delay in performance due to circumstances beyond our reasonable control, including but not limited to: natural disasters, pandemics, war, terrorism, government actions, power failures, internet outages, or third-party service failures.
17. Modifications to Terms
We may modify these Terms at any time. Material changes will be communicated through an in-app notification.
Continued use of the App after changes are posted constitutes acceptance of the modified Terms. If you disagree with any changes, you should stop using the App and delete your account.
18. Severability
If any provision of these Terms is found to be invalid or unenforceable, the remaining provisions shall continue in full force and effect.
19. Governing Law
- UK Users: The laws of England and Wales. Disputes shall be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of England and Wales.
- EU Users: The laws of your country of residence, with jurisdiction in your local courts, in accordance with EU consumer protection regulations.
- All Other Users: The laws of England and Wales, unless your local law provides you with mandatory protections that cannot be waived.
