Frequently asked questions

Everything you need to know about The Halal Scanning App.

Is my data private and secure?

Yes. Scan history is stored locally on your device. We don't use advertising SDKs or trackers. Camera images are processed in real-time and never stored on our servers. We are fully GDPR compliant. Read our Privacy Policy for details.

Which madhabs (schools of thought) are supported?

We support all five major schools: Hanafi, Shafi'i, Maliki, Hanbali, and a General consensus option. Premium users get rulings from all five madhabs; free users see General rulings.

How accurate is the halal analysis?

Our database covers 2,500+ ingredients and 4M+ products worldwide. AI-powered analysis cross-references multiple sources including scholarly rulings. However, we always recommend checking product packaging and consulting scholars for critical decisions.

Can I use the app offline?

Basic barcode scanning works with our preloaded database of 4,100+ pre-verified products. AI-powered features (ingredient label scanning, menu scanning, product recognition) require an internet connection.

Which regions are supported?

We support 7 regions with localised nutrition standards: United Kingdom, United States & Canada, UAE & Gulf States, Southeast Asia, South Asia, Australia & New Zealand, and Europe. Each region has its own nutrition framework, certification bodies, and retailer integrations.

How does the Israeli product detection work?

Our six-layer detection system checks barcode 729 prefixes, Open Food Facts country tags, Hebrew text, a database of 60+ known Israeli brands, manufacturer addresses, and .co.il domain links. When a product triggers any layer, a warning banner displays all reasons.

What health conditions does the app monitor?

Premium users can set alerts for 7 conditions: Diabetic (sugar/carb alerts), High Blood Pressure (sodium), High Cholesterol (fat/saturated fat), Watching Weight (calories), Heart Condition, Kidney Condition (protein/sodium), and Pregnancy (folate, iron, caffeine guidance).

How does Kids Mode work?

Kids Mode simplifies the result screen with clear, child-friendly messages: "This food is OKAY! You can eat this." for halal, "DO NOT eat this!" for haram, and "Ask Mum or Dad first!" for doubtful products. Toggle it on/off in Settings.

Is this app a substitute for a scholar's ruling?

No. The Halal Scanning App is a digital assistance tool. It provides information based on scholarly references and ingredient databases, but should not be treated as a definitive religious authority. Always consult qualified scholars for critical dietary decisions.

Is the Ramadan Hub available year-round?

The Ramadan Hub is always accessible from the home screen, but it activates with full features — countdown timer, daily meal suggestions, and fasting tips — during the month of Ramadan based on automatic Hijri calendar detection.

How do I cancel my subscription?

Subscriptions are managed through the Apple App Store or Google Play Store. Go to your device's subscription settings to cancel. You'll retain premium access until the end of your billing period.

Can I get a refund?

Refunds are handled by Apple or Google, depending on your platform. Contact Apple Support or Google Play Support to request a refund within their respective refund policies.
